Secret Gilis – Gili Nanggu, Gili Sudak & Gili Kedis
When most travellers hear “the Gilis”, they think of Gili Trawangan, Gili Air, and Gili Meno. But Lombok has another beautiful island group on its southwest coast: Gili Nanggu, Gili Sudak, and Gili Kedis.
These smaller islands offer a slower and more peaceful experience. There are no busy streets, no nightlife crowds, and no need to follow a packed itinerary. Instead, the day is about clear water, quiet beaches, a wooden boat, and time spent outdoors.
Gili Nanggu
Gili Nanggu is usually the main stop on the island-hopping route. Its calm, clear water makes it a lovely place for swimming and snorkeling, with colourful fish and coral close to shore in many areas.
It is the kind of island where you can arrive, leave your shoes on the boat, and spend the next few hours moving slowly between the beach and the sea.
Gili Sudak
Gili Sudak is known for its relaxed atmosphere, white sand, and peaceful coastline. It is a good place to take a break from the water, enjoy a simple seafood lunch, or simply sit beneath the trees and listen to the sea.
The surrounding water is often calm and inviting, making the island a popular stop for swimming and snorkeling.
Gili Kedis
Tiny Gili Kedis is often called Lover Island. The uninhabited islet is small enough to walk around in just a few minutes, with a bright strip of sand and clear shallow water surrounding it.
Its size is part of the charm. Gili Kedis feels intimate, simple, and beautifully quiet, especially when you arrive between boat visits or stay to watch the changing afternoon light.
What to expect
Most trips start from the Tawun area in Sekotong and continue by local boat. The exact route, boat price, lunch arrangements, and snorkeling equipment depend on the operator and the weather.
Bring swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen, a towel, drinking water, and some cash for local services. Always listen to your boat crew or guide, especially when sea conditions change.
