Geography
One island, four moods.
Mount Rinjani anchors the north and east. The west is easiest for sunsets and the Gilis; the south is beach country; the centre and east are greener, cooler and better for village and rice-field landscapes.
A SistersZ Villa guest guide
Beaches, waterfalls, Sasak culture, the Gili Islands and the best routes from your private base in Sandik.
Start here
Lombok is a volcanic island of west-coast sunsets, highland villages, Sasak traditions and long southern beaches. This guide gives you the context first, then the practical routes and places worth your time from SistersZ Villa in Sandik.
Geography
Mount Rinjani anchors the north and east. The west is easiest for sunsets and the Gilis; the south is beach country; the centre and east are greener, cooler and better for village and rice-field landscapes.
People & culture
The Sasak people are Lombok's main cultural community. Islamic traditions shape daily life, while Hindu-Balinese heritage is also visible at places such as Pura Lingsar and Pura Batu Bolong.
A short history
Lombok has long been part of sea routes between Bali, Sumbawa and the wider Indonesian archipelago. Balinese influence, colonial rule and modern tourism all left visible layers across the island.
Before you go
Lombok International Airport is the island's main air gateway. From the airport, arrange a trusted transfer to Sandik rather than relying on an unplanned late-night journey.
A trusted scooter or car with driver is the easiest option. Bemo generally operate during the day; ojek and cidomo are useful in selected areas.
Boat times, road conditions, weather and entrance fees can change. We recommend checking the same day with the SistersZ team before a long trip.
